Originally it was known within the Roman times as Ancaria. In addition, there are silver-green olive groves and a number of wine growing regions originally established by the Benedictines.Wonderful campsite Adria A number of family oriented activities are located within the Andria Ankaran tourist complex. People have the option to camp on the campsite Adria, due to the number of green trees, cypresses and lush grasses available.
You'll find the campsite on the sunny part of the Milje peninsula. It can be reached easily by taking the crossing at Lazaret or via the Skofije border. This elongated camping site that embraces the Adriatic Sea, offers excellent facilities along with a salt-water swimming pool(Olympic-size)and a shallow pool for the kids.
Although the shale beach is very inviting for sunbathing, you are also able to fish or scuba dive.
You will find there also a well-stocked campsite shop and a nice restaurant with a wonderful view out to sea.
In addition, there are places for people to walk and bicycle as well. Cultural SitesThere are a number of cultural sites for people to enjoy. The Benedictine monastery of St. Nicholas offers a wondrous place for people to visit.
The Villa Andor is another one of the preserved historic beauties here. The Benedictine MonasteryThe Benedictine monastery dates back to the early 12th century. As Ankaran's name, the monastery originates from Saint Nicholas Ancarano.
The plague forced the monks to abandon the monastery in 1630. Later, it was converted into the Noble Madonizza family's summer residence.
They bought it, along with its estate in 1774 from Koper. Following this time, the building was altered for use as a military hospital during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1925, following the First World War, it was changed into a hotel and became part of the Saint Nicolas seaside resort. Villa AndorThe Villa Andor features a Venetian-style villa and is protected historically. It served as an official state residence and private residence before opening as a hotel within the mid-nineties.
All together there are 14 double rooms, which all have a combination of antique and modern furnishings. Many of the rooms have some kind of a view of the sea.
The honeymoon suites have French doors that open onto a private balcony. Within the hotel, the Ardor restaurant features a menu prepared according to a Mediterranean menu. Within the dishes there are local delicacies incorporated within a multi-course menu. Each of the dishes is prepared by a renowned chef, and feature wines hand selected to complement each of the dishes
During warmer times, guests have the option to dine on a large stone terrace, which features views of the Gulf of Koper. In addition, entertainment is available for the kids at a local playground.
