Easy Polenta Recipes

Homemade Polenta Recipe:
Koruzna Polenta Po Domace z Mlekom

You can make easy polenta recipes by using coarsely ground cornmeal in salt water along with milk. It is a simple main dish.

The quality of water is important, since it offers a good pure taste. Using spring water is recommendable for making polenta when your tap water tastes strange. Using the cold-water method of making polenta is a good idea when you have problems with lumps forming. Learn how to do that and then work your way up to the heated method.

Ingredients:

250-grams coarsely ground cornmeal
1.5-liter milk
2-tablespoon olive oil - extra virgin
1-teaspoon salt
1.2-liter water

Directions for easy polenta recipes:
Using a large pot, you will add the water, olive oil and salt and bring it to a boil. Pour all the cornmeal in a slow steady stream into the boiling water, while vigorously whisking to prevent lumps from forming.

Cover with lid and reduce the heat to cook the polenta slowly for 30 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, you will stir the mixture occasionally. More stirring will mellow the polenta. Remember, the longer you stir the better the polenta.

It is true that by pouring the cornmeal to fast can cause lumps. You cannot ruin polenta, but you can work by stirring to reduce the forming of lumps.

Pour the hot polenta into cups. Add some lukewarm milk and serve. This homemade polenta with milk makes a nice light main dish or a warm snack.

Before serving to children add a small bit of brown sugar before adding the milk.

Instant Polenta Tip

Many resourceful cooks use instant polenta. You can use it to reduce your cooking time and heat in the kitchen. You can cook polenta in the oven or you can use the pre-cooked polenta in tubes.

Instant and precooked polenta is useful in many places such as Slovenia, Italy and America.

Good to know:

Larger quantities of polenta need more attention of course. You can serve anywhere between a dozen to a few hundred guests while using larger pots.

However, you do need to stir it more frequently for it to cook evenly. Using smaller amounts you can let it simmer slowly while stirring occasionally as you prepare the rest of your meal.
