Flights to Slovenia

Best flight options to slovenian airports
Ljubljana, Maribor and Portoroz

Find in this section everything you need to know on flights to Slovenia.
If you plan to pay a visit to that beautiful nation and intend to travel by air, there are a number of things that you need to know.

For starters, virtually all flights coming into Slovenia not just from Europe but from any other airport worldwide will land in Brnik airport (also known as the Ljubljana Joze Pucnik airport).

But this is not the only option if you are traveling to Slovenia. The country has two other main airports: Maribor and Portoroz Airport.

Airports in neighboring countries

In addition, Slovenia is fortunate to have a number of airports in neighboring countries being just across the border. You can take a flight to any one of these "neighboring" airports and then cover the rest of the journey to Slovenia by road with some of the airports being as little as an hour's drive across the Slovenia border.

The nearby cross border airports include Italy's Trieste airport to the South West, the Zagreb Airport in Croatia to the East, as well as the Klagenfurt and Graz airports in Austria to the North.

Flights to Slovenia - Airports in Slovenia

Flights to Ljubljana

Ljubljana Joze Pucnik Airport is the main airport receiving the vast majority of incoming international flights to Slovenia. You can easily connect to most major European cities from the airport.

It is located 25 kilometers from Slovenia's capital city of Ljubljana. This airport terminal is not 24 hours though; it opens at 0600hrs and closes at 2200hrs every day. The airport has several services and recreational facilities including restaurants, courier companies, car hire firms, a bank, a post office, a duty free shop and even a boutique. Travel between the airport and the city centre is by bus or taxi. The taxi ride from the capital will be cost you about €35.

Flights to Maribor Airport

The Maribor airport is a much smaller international airport. It is located in Letališka, Orehova. It is open between 09.00 hrs and 21.30 hrs. The airport has a restaurant and a duty free shop. It receives some international flights and you can get easy connection to other cities in Slovenia.

Flights to Portoroz

The Portoroz airport is the smallest airport in Slovenia. Some international airlines land in this airport and you can get direct connections to the other airports in Slovenia as well to a number of European cities.

That it is not as busy as the Ljubljana Joze Pucnik Airport is apparent from the relatively short runway (only 1200 m) and the terminal's operating hours (08.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs in the summer and from 09.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs in the winter).

Some services and facilities here are similar to what there is at Ljubljana Airport though not at the same scale:

There are other service shops in the airport including a restaurant, duty free shop, car rentals, taxi services, hotel reservation office and a pilot school.
