Jota Soup Recipe

by Lucille Pierce

JOTA SOUP RECIPE, I am trying to find a recipe for Jota but cannot find it on your recipes. Perhaps I am calling it wrong. On vacation in Slovenia to the many caves, we ate and enjoyed Jota, a white, thick soup which seemed to have maybe potatoes, turnips or maybe even sauerkraut. Can you direct me in the right direction?

Hi Lucille,
Jota is a thick slovenian soup from the Primorska region (close to the adriatic sea). It is based on beans, and you guessed it potatoes, turnips and sauerkraut. Another important ingredient besides many more...is a chunk of country ham or a cured neck of pork.
We will add a delicious Jota recipe to our slovenian recipe collection soon. But you may find here immediately a great Jota Recipe:

I cannot wait to try this recipe. I am sure it would even be better with homemade Kisla Repa (sour turnips) or homemade canned sauerkraut. I do have a question. Do you rinse your canned sauerkraut before putting it in the soup mixture? I definitely will try this recipe and rate it.. This is so much fun finding new Slovenian recipes. I am so excited about finding this website!
