The Mountain Bike Trails of Kranjska Gora

Don’t miss our Mountain Biking Tips for Kranjska Gora while planning a mountainbiking tour in Slovenia.

When the way-marked cycle paths were launched along with the bike park on the Vitranc slopes, the area of Kranjska Gora became very popular as a holiday destination for cyclists. Probably one of the most famously talked about routes here is the well-known winding road up to the Vršic (Mountain which takes the cyclist 1611 meters high and is very popular amongst its visitors.

However, there exist more mountain biking tips. Several other stunning cycle paths to travel along through the valley below, the paths of many of which are clearly marked and suitable for family outings and for those who ride for recreational purposes.

extremely scenic and tranquil area

There is a main cycle path which connects Kranjska Gora, or Ratece with Jesenice along with numerous other routes branching off in northerly and southerly directions.

By following what used to be a railway line which occasionally veers away from the main road you will pass through an extremely scenic and tranquil area which is regularly enjoyed by inline skaters and strollers as well as cyclists.

Crossing the Italian border into Tarvisio, where it becomes known as Ciclovia, this area is ideal for families and the path continues all the way to Austria. An alternative route is to cycle through the Radovna River valley until you get as far as Bled.

Mountain Bike Trails in Kranjska Gora

You’ve come on this page because you need mountain biking tips. Here they are: There are many advanced mountain bike trails, the majority of which travel in a northerly direction into the valley and through the wooded areas of the Karavanke Alps.

If you want to go that bit higher you put down your bike and continue climbing on foot until you reach the top. Here you can see the border separating Slovenia from Austria. The views are amazing, particularly when looking at the Julian Alps, an area you cannot reach by cycle from this side due to the rocky terrain.

These Alps can, however, be accessed from the outstanding Vršic Pass, towering over the Primorska region on the other side. Stretching into the centre of the Julian Alps, the side valleys are a great place for a leisurely trip. Of these the most well known are the Tamar and Krnica valleys.

Visit Vitranc Bike Park for downhill mountain biking

If a downhill rush of adrenalin is what you are searching for then you really need to pay a visit to the Vitranc Bike Park. The tracks here are over natural terrain and have manmade barriers. Depending on your level you can either have a go at the Vršic mountain pass or opt for one of the easier routes passing through Tarvisio to get to Mangart heading directly for Austria via Korensko Sedlo, also known as Wurzenpass.
