Mountain Biking Trails in Europe

The Mountainbiking Trails of Lake Bled

There are many mountain biking trails in Europe. But one of the most beautiful trails you will find near Lake Bled in Slovenia.

Lying close to the Triglav National Park, Lake Bled is a super starting place for all kinds of cycling tours. This area boasts lots of natural heritage and a richness of culture. It not only perfect for cycling but suitable for all levels of mountain bikers.

There are many short cycling trips made possible by the diverse roads and paths leading in and out of the villages around Bled as well as the detailed network of dirt tracks on Jelovica, Mežaklja and Pokljuka. And don't worry if you haven't got your bike with you - there are plenty of places where you can hire a bike and any other necessary equipment.

The Cycling Routes

The most well known of the cycling routes around Bled is the one circling the lake, which is 6km long and an enjoyably easy ride for children and adults alike. However there are many other extremely attractive routes which run away from the lake.

Take for example, the Radovna Cycling Route. This travels through the valley of the Radovna River in the Triglav National Park. The route itself is 16km in length with plenty of information points as you go. There is a Short Tour of Bled which is 30km long and takes you around the town. Don't despair at 30km - you can stop at any time and get back to Bled easily. However, if you do manage to carry on, you will see the splendid sights of the Sava Dolinka Canyon and the famous Vintgar Gorge, after passing through many of the Gorenjska region´s traditional villages and cycling along the Sava Dolinka banks.

Demanding Mountain Biking Trails in Europe

As well as offering easy to navigate routes, Bled also boasts the kind of demanding road cycling and mountain bike tours that the advanced biker is interested in.

You could always take a ride to the edge of the Triglav National Park and Bohinj or cross the Ljubljana Basin to the Karavanke Alps if you are feeling a little more adventurous.

Additional Offers

As well as hiring out bicycles and other equipment, travel agencies like Helia, Kompas, Lifetrek and Amigo have special offers on quite regularly and you can find out lots more information from the Bled Tourist Information Centre.

Mountain Biking Trails in Europe - Maps and Guidebooks

It's always a good idea to have a map of the area you are cycling around as well as a guidebook. We suggest you have a map of the Radovna cycling route, an information map, a map of the municipality of Bled and any other information found at www.all-slovenia-holidays.com that you feel may be of use to you whilst on your trip.
