Murska Sobota

less noted but recommendable at all!

In the North East of Slovenia Murska Sobota is situated, a little town insufficiently mentioned under touristy aspects. We think however you should visit this town especially when you are spending your holidays in the Norht East of Slovenia and are interested in history.

once a medieval settlement

It was already built as a medieval settlement grouping around the Santa Claus parish church in 1071, - confirmed is the existence in the middle of 13th century. The development of the place was essentially influenced by the roads leading from German countries to Hungary, providing trade, ethnical and cultural exchange.

open minded society

The regional museum of Murska Sobota today is witnessing the development of an open minded society at the interface of Slovenian, Hungarian and German culture by presenting several ethnological, archaeological and historic selections.

Joze Plecnik is greeting!

Reference is also given under religious aspects. The diocese here comes up with very interesting points too. So e.g. the church in Bogojina can be seen as an architectural master piece of the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik.

Or the so called "church of indestructible hope" of Odranci, planned by a Plečnik student and erected only by great sacrifice and will of the Catholic population against political influences. Nearby and a centre of spiritual life is the Marian place of pilgrimage in Turnišče.
