Guided Visits

Did you know that experienced guides have welcomed over 30 millions visitors in the last 188 years. A guided visit lasts an hour and a half, allowing you to admire the splendour of the underground world.

Guides speak Slovene, german, English, and italian. But also Spanish and French Speaking Guides are available on special request.

Wonderful Calcite Creations

You will be dazzled by a wealth of speleothems: special calcite formations presenting them in a variety of colours, shapes and age.

The so called "curtains" are also in the spot light and give the cave a mystic appearance.

Some History

The first cave description was found in the 17th century and a new area of the cave was discovered in 1818 by accident.. The caves were opened to the public in 1822, the railway lines were laid there in 1872 and some years later in 1884 electricity arrived.
