Postojna Slovenia
Should you know Postojna Slovenia? For sure! Located 49 kilometres south of Ljubljana, Postojna has developed from a small town to a world famous place, due to the Adelsberger grotto (Postojnska jama).
The first time I got there, was as little girl with my parents. This is now 30 years ago - it was for me a truely fascinating and unforgettable experience.
And also when I visited the cave in 2007 again with my own little family, it hasn't lost its fascination.
Moreover I was impressed how they managed to optimize and protect this great location.
Of course it's still Slovenia's No.1 Tourist Attraction. You'll
find no place in Slovenia where such a broad ethincal mix of tourists is represented.
No wonder: Postojna Cave is the most visited show cave in Europe and also the largest cave in the "classic Karst".
very comfortable with cave train

Nowadays you start your visit aboard the cave train (like 30 years ago.) Electric lightning allows you to admire the splendour and size of the underground world. It is advisable to be at the entrance to the cave (picture below) 15 minutes before the visit starts.

Special Tip:
If you plan a visit in summer time we recommend to take with you a warm jacket or better a coat, as the constant temperature in the cave ranges from 8 to 10 degrees.
With inpropriate clothing not only driving in that open train but also sitting on cold train benches could become a very uncomfortable affair without a coat...
only 23 kilometres are explored
The main attraction of this fascinating labyrinth of which only 23 kilometres are explored, are stalactites and stalagmites glistening in various colours.
Take here a closer look to the
postojna cave!
The "Congress Hall", the "Russian Bridge", the "Beautiful Carves" and the "Walk of Brilliants" (picture right) are part of the magical surrounding.
enjoy also the regional beauty
The resort Postojna Slovenia is not only centre for sightseeing but also invites to relaxed hours while enjoying the regional beauty by cycling, walking or watching wildlife.
Tennis, football, volleyball, boule and bowling are offered in the local sport park, but also activities like parachuting and flying can be arranged at the near airport.
Klasika Postojna - the classical event!
Every last Thursday of the month blues concerts with top musicians are held in the Jamski dvorec. Klasika Postojna, classical events take place through the summer months July and August. The top event of the year is happening on the fourth Sunday in August with the Knight Tournament. Lord and Lady of the Predjamski castle open the celebration, taking the visitor into the enchanting world of middle age.
Predjamski castle
The Predjama Castle
is situated only 6 kilometres from Postojna and was built in the year 1570 in a height of 123 meters. Although the original building does not exist anymore, the renaissance castle of the 16th century including a small museum, which took its place is worth a visit.
