existed already in the 12th centuryPredjama Castle near Postojna was built in the 16th century, but, as found out during renovation, based on a castle ruin already existing in the 12th century.It is extraordinarily situated at the top of a nutant rock face, above the place where Lokva ditch is descending into underground. A cliffy rock scenario, crowned by a typical medieval dwelling (as today an inside the castle existing museum is telling from), connected to a submontane caves system. Home of knight ErasmusIn the second half of 15th century the castle was home of knight Erasmus of Luegg. During the fights between the Austrian emperor and the Hungarian king, Erasmus was in service of the Hungarians and used Predjama Castle to hide against the Austrian death sentence.Suitable therefore was an ambush, so called Luknja = hole, accessible only by passing a small rocky rack, a 60m deep precipice underneath. The knight was a special one of his kind, intensively scoffing at his pursuers and it needed the treacherous character of a servant to defeat him. No castle without a treasure!There are a lot of stories ranking around that robber-knight home. During renovation works again and again further news were discovered, even a treasure was found in the cellar.Don't miss Posojna Cave!Inform yourself a little bit about this region and you will find an area of enchanting beauty and really a lot of places worth to do intensive sightseeing.
