Ptuj – treasure home
of the millenium
Ptuj is Slovenia’s oldest city. This compact town forms a symphony of red-tile roofs viewed most photogenically across the Drava river. A well-proportioned castle gives the city skyline its prominent appearance.

Oldest Wine Cellar
The Slovenia’s oldest wine cellar invites you into its 500 years old vaults with a great music and light presentation. The cellar was built in 1390 and is a treasurey of Haloze and Slovenske gorice wines. Cultural Attractions
Since in Roman times Ptuj was the largest city in the area of today’s slovenia you can visit there many cultural and historical attractions from the Roman times. In 1250 "Poetovio" became a city and acquired the right to build a city wall.
The lagacy of the city’s rich history and its castle lords is kept in the museum castle.
Karnival
Ptuj is also the area which is the most affected with carnival in Slovenia. The shaggy Kurent straw men with animal masks attract international crowds. For ten days around Mardi Gras they banish in the role of ancient fertility demons the winter
Eating Tip: Ribic
An ideal spot to go out for a fish dinner is Ribic. You’ll find this old house with a great river sidee terrace in Drvaska ulica.
