400 year old steel industry
This city became a town in 1952, and has a nearly four hundred year old steel industry. Until 1919, the town belonged to Austria. That's it and many nearby locations also have names in German.
Incredible steel sculptures that are truly worth seeing
Ravne na Koroskem is near the lower part of the Meza river, and located in the shadow of the mountain called Urslja Gora. Its iron and steel industry has been famous for centuries, resulting in incredible steel sculptures that are truly worth seeing.
Tourists here will enjoy the emphasis on the area's historical sites, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. Agricultural tourism is big, as are sports and other recreation activities.
Natural Sights: Peca
The nearby mountain, Pec (2125 m), is the highest mountain in the Slovenian part of the Karavanke range. The mountain's highest point is called Kordezeva glava, and rises more than two thousand meters above a high plateau.
Peka itself is made primarily of limestone formed during the Triassic. Because of this, it's home to a number of rare plants, referred to localy as karavanska ovsika, alpaska zlatica, and najmanjsi jeglic.
You can visit a mountain hut on Peka, as well as exploring a famous site linked to local folklore. The cave of King Matjaz houses a bronze statue of this famous folkloric figure.
Ravne Castle
Ravne Castle was built in the sixteenth century by the Hebestreit family above the center of town. It has been owned by many different people and rebuilt at least once. The most recent renovation was conducted with care and respect to the building's cultural value.
The castle hosts the Dr. Franc Susnik Central Carintian Library, as well as the Liknovi Salon. There are plenty of exhibits about the river valley and the town's history, and artistic retreats have been held here since the late 1960s.
