Slovene Food
With around thirty different cuisine regions, Slovene food and cooking has been greatly influenced by its neighboring countries. The land of Slovenia is not at all well suited as far as the production of crops is concerned so quite a few of the basic foods that are taken for granted such as meat, oil, sugar and wheat have to be imported. However, there is a sufficient amount of foodstuffs such as dairy produce, potatoes and poultry. Slovene Food - Simple and hearty dishesMore often than not Slovene food is made up of simple and hearty dishes. Cream is used in many recipes such as mushroom and pork sour soup and chicken paprika with noodles or dumplings and horseradish and cream is regularly served as an accompaniment to beef dishes as a specialty of the northeastern area of Slovenia.

Stuffed peppers
(nadevana paprika) and stuffed mushrooms along with proso millet and barley mash are regular choices of filled dishes. ŠtrukljiŠtruklji is, without doubt, one of the most loved Slovenian foods. Made from leavened batter dough using white flour struklji comes cooked or baken and is served as a main or a dessert depending on the location.
For example, in Ljubljana you will find this dish served with marmalade or white cheese. You may also come across Štruklji filled with a kind of walnut or curd cheese paste.Sweet DelicaciesPrekmurska gibanica is the most famous cake made from rolled dough which also has curd cheese, apples, raisins, poppy seeds and walnuts along with many other ingredients. It may be loaded with calories but it's the sweetest pleasure your taste buds are ever going to be tickled by!
Other sweet delicacies include Bled Kremsnita cream cake, honey cakes, krofe, grmada, štrukli and potice
which is a pastry stuffed with the same kinds of ingredients as the prekmurska gibanica above.
Slovenian SpicesBay leaves, lemon balm, marjoram, sage and thyme are the traditional and local spices used in Slovene dishes although cinnamon and pepper have been successfully added to this list of late. Slovenian WinesThe typical wines enjoyed by many are those mainly produced in the coastal areas of Malvasia and Teran, and include such as Cvicek, Metliška Crnina (Bela Krajina), Modra Frankinja, Radgonska Penina, Renski Riesling, Traminec and Sauvignon.
