Slovenia Culture

Read here which aspects influenced the slovenia culture in the past and also nowadays. Especially in Literature, Music and Architecture, there are some notable points of view.

By the way, referring to its cultural development, Slovenia is comparable with other European countries. It is influenced by Austria, Germany and Venetia.

Culture is the heart of slovenian identity

One can say that the earliest signs of the Slovenian spirit have came up in the field of culture. Culture has formed the heart of the Slovenian national identity ever since France Preseren’s poetry,

Literature

The Romantic poet France Preseren (1800-49) is Slovenia's most beloved writer. His lyric poems set new standards for Slovenian literature and helped to raise national consciousness.

There were some writers, well-known in Slovenia, in each important epoch. For example Sebastijan Krelj during the reformation, Janez Vajkard Valvasor, the writer of the baroque area or Izidor Cankar in the 19th century.

International translations of the literary works of Tomaz Salamun, Drago Jancar and Ales Debeljakshow demonstrate that even the smallest cultures can create work of best quality and by this contribute to the actual global literary tendencies.

Onother famous music group or better band is Laibach. It's an industrial rock group which is already successful since the early eighties.

Nowadays Slovenia has a many theatres, cinemas, libraries and educational facilities and is well known abroad for its current cultural goods. Especially in Ljubljana a signifacant theatrical scene is grown. Young composers and writers find their new way of life there.

Architecture

Slovenia culture also means architecture. You can find many art nouveau buildings in Ljubljana. Jože Plečnik is a famous Slovenian architect of the early 20th century. He worked in Vienna, Ljubljana, Belgrade and Prague. He created the famous triple bridge in the historic city center of Ljubljana.

A break-through into international artistic circles has made the architect and sculptor Marjetica Potrc. She won the significant Hugo Boss Prize 2000 and had a solo exhibition in the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2001.

Ethic Art

To mention also is the Slovenian ethic art. You can obtain beautiful things, made of crystal, in Rogaska Slatina. The Slovenians are also manufacturing wooden souvenirs and they are proud on their bobbin lace and basket works.
