Everyone wants to know where to get their news. Foreign residents of Slovenia are no exception. Here's some basic information about Slovenian news options to help you choose your sources.
Slovenia News Media OverviewUnfortunately, domestic media in Slovenia is often incomprehensible to non-natives. That's because while daily newspapers and smaller publishers all have extensive websites and publications, those publications are available only in Slovene.
None of the major print media outlets native to the country do anything big in languages other than Slovene.
Unfortunately, this language is spoken by only two million people across the globe, causing much of Slovenia's news to remain unknown to outsiders. The Slovenian PressThe Dnevnik and Delo are both Ljubljana based and daily issues. Other dailies include the Maribor based Vecer, the Slovene Novice tabloid style paper and Finance, the business daily.
The Nedeljski Dnevnik, the Mladina, the Primorske Novice and The Slovenian Times (Slovenia´s first independent English newspaper) covering all things to do with Slovenian society, including culture, business, politics and sports all come out weekly.
The Slovene Press Agency is the country´s news agency. Top 5 Slovenian NewspapersThese are the top five newspapers in Slovenia. As stated above, they're available only in Slovene.

Best Slovenia Online NewsIf you're looking for news about Slovenia online, the best places to look include the Slovenia Bulletin, at the Ljubljana Life website, which is a weekly English language review of the top stories the above magazines and newspapers carry, the recently established Slovenia Times website, and the government sponsored Slovenia News and Slovenia Business Week.
Other, more specialized online news sites are also available, and the government public relations and media office also has a site, though all information provided is of an official nature, not a journalistic one.Best English News In SloveniaIf you're specifically looking for news about Slovenia in English, all of the above sites can provide you with information.
However, there are other sources to check, too.
Ljubljana Life creates its print publication four or five times each year, and can be acquired free in the capital. This twenty to twenty-four page booklet contains mostly information for tourists and other visitors.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Balkan Report has been including coverage of the country since 2001, often with controversial information. An email subscription can be provided for people who aren't able to hear the program on the radio.
The Slovenia Business Report has been published since 1991, and covers the economy and business in general.
For ethnic Slovenes living outside of the country, Slovenija Quarterly provides current events, news, and cultural coverage.
