Slovenia Rail

Travelling with slovenia rail is inexpensive and convenient. Almost every interesting part of Slovenia is reachable by comfortable and modern Intercity trains.

Not always the fastest experience

One warning ahead: Slovenia trains operate on just over 1200 km of track. That means, you’ll need time for travelling. As the infrastructure is old, most regional trains are not faster than around 65 km/hour. Taking an Intercity Train is of course faster story...

The big plus: Travelling by train is in every case cheaper than taking the bus in slovenia.

It's very affordable

For example: The two hour trip from Ljubljana to Maribor you can get for around 8,6 USD and the hour long trip from Ljubljana toBled for about 2,5 USD.

In case you don’t have the time to organize a ticket, pay an extra charge and the conductor will sell you one in the train.

More Informations you get here: www.slo-zeleznice.si

Getting around

There are daily trains from Ljubljana to Vienna, Munich and Trtieste/Venice. For Zagreb there are two daily trains from Ljubljana and Maribor.

Displays on posted timetables

Here are maybe the most important expressions for travelling by train in slovenia for your convenience:

ODHOD or ODHODI VLAKOV means "departures" and
PRIHOD or PRIHODI VLAKOV means "arrivals".

Special Tip:

SLOVENIJA TOURIST arranges trips with a steam locomotive on Slovenia railways Oldtimer Train. It includes one of the most spectacular routes, the Bohinj line. This route shows one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers through the valley of Soca. This was for me an unforgotten great experience.
