All the Slovenian Recipes I have published here have been eaten and approved by a Slovenian food lover (that's myself ;-) ).
Of course, this doesn't mean that I have actually baked or cooked all the recipes on this site. My job is more eating and testing Slovenian food and dishes when I’m in Slovenia with my family...
But first take a look at my selection of slovenian recipe books available online:
There is no authentic Slovenian meal without a soup as a starter.
In this Section you’ll find recipes starting from my daughter's favorite beef soup (Goveja Juha), to the hearty Bean Soup (Fizolova Juha) up to the very popular
mushroom soup recipes.
Appetizers
The most slovenian appetizers are based on the italian cuisine. Find here a small recipe collection
Hot Pot
Here you will find "thicker" soup recipes that are used as dish and not as a starter. In this recipe section you will find the very traditional
Polenta,
the even more traditional Zganci but also the Sauerkraut Soup (Juha s kislim zeljem) among other recipes.
Find here a vast selection of meat dishes typical in Slovenia. You will find here my daughters favorite:
Stuffed peppers (Nadevana Paprika)
as well as my husbands beloved Beef Goulash (Goveji Golaz). We will add soon also some recipes for grilled meat dishes like
Cevapcici.
Mushrooms are also a very typical slovene food. In Slovenia there exists a long tradition of collecting mushrooms. Find here a collection of stuffed mushroom recipes (Polnjene Gobe). Sauteed Mushrooms (Prazene Gobe) or Chanterelles with eggs (Lisicke z Jajci) are also very popular in Slovenia.
Typical Slovene desserts are Strudel (jabolcni zavitki) and
walnut rolls (potica).
But these are not the only Slovene dessert recipes you’ll find in this section.
