Slovenian Soup Recipes

slovenia Soup recipes

Find here a collection of slovenian soup recipes.

An official Slovene meal starts with soup and one of the most popular is Bean Soup called Fizolova Juha. Another favorite (also our family's favorite) is Beef Soup, also called Goveja Juha.

Some Slovenian Soup Recipes are actually used as a dish or meal, such as the Polenta or Sauerkraut Soups, where a sour taste of vinegar is added for flavor.

Because mushroom collecting is a long time tradition in Solvenia, they are a part of typical recipes and the Slovene Soup Recipes also offer a Mushroom Soup.

Importance of Soup In Slovenian Meals

After World War II and the disintegration of Yugoslav, Slovenia was first taken over by Italy and then invaded by Germany. The hospital called Franja that was created by the Slovene partisans, survived on soup made from enemy food supplies.

Using primarily vegetables to stretch thin rations of meats, the soups were typically full of sustaining and filling things, like beans, mushrooms, carrots, onion, celery, a little pork or beef, in some cases, cabbage or sauerkraut.

Today, traditional Soups in Slovenia reflect the tradition of the earlier soup survival, along with some Italian and German influences, and are a traditional start to every meal.
